The Iron Dome Weapon System works to detect, assess and intercept incoming rockets, artillery and mortars. The Tamir missile is Iron Dome's combat-proven interceptor that strikes down incoming threats launched from ranges of 4-70 km. The Iron Dome system is deployed today in Israel, providing day and night protection.
The system is effective in all weather conditions, including low clouds, rain, dust storms and fog. A single launcher can protect a medium-sized city.
The U.S. Army successfully fired a Tamir missile from its newest launch platform on April 14, 2016. The missile engaged and destroyed an unmanned aircraft system target as part of an engineering demonstration of the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2-Intercept. The system features a first-of-its-kind multi-mission launcher, which is designed to fire a variety of different interceptor missiles, depending on the threat.
The Iron Dome Weapon System is a key part of Israeli multi-layered defense, providing the lowest layer of its air and missile defense umbrella. The co-production of the Tamir missile will be critical to ensuring adequate supply quantities for Israel's defense.
